Norcross, GA (August 8, 2020) – On Saturday, August 8, 2020, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Gwinnett County Police Department (GCPD) to investigate an officer involved shooting.

Preliminary information indicates that on Friday, August 7, 2020, at approximately 10:55 p.m., GCPD was dispatched to 3229 Quails Lake Village Lane in Norcross, Gwinnett County. A 911 caller reported hearing a woman screaming inside an apartment. A GCPD officer located the residence where he encountered the woman in the doorway. The officer also encountered a male, identified as Ramon Guillen, 47, of Norcross, with a firearm. During the incident, the GCPD officer fired his service weapon, striking Guillen. The officer then reportedly pulled the female from the residence, while Guillen slammed the front door. Other GCPD officers arrived and secured the area around the apartment. GCPD SWAT later made entry into the home, but Guillen was not inside.

GCPD was informed that at approximately 2:40 a.m., Guillen was admitted to Emory St. Joseph’s Hospital in Sandy Springs with gunshot wounds. Guillen was later transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he is in critical condition.

No officers were injured during the incident.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation. Once completed, it will be turned over to the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office for review.
