Chamblee, GA (July 12, 2020) – On Sunday, July 12, 2020, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Chamblee Police Department to conduct an officer involved shooting investigation.

Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 8:57 a.m., multiple 911 calls were received about a subject, later identified as Marcos Reyes, age 28 of Forest Park, having a firearm in the area of Shallowford Terrace and Buford Highway.  Officers from the Chamblee Police Department and the Brookhaven Police Department responded to the area and made contact with Reyes who was armed with a firearm.  After attempting to speak with Reyes for an extended period, Reyes discharged his firearm numerous times at officers.  Multiple officers then discharged their firearms, striking Reyes.  Reyes was transported to a local area hospital where he died.

No officers were injured in this incident.

The GBI will continue to conduct an independent investigation into the officer involved shooting.  Upon completion of the investigation, it will be turned over to the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office for review.
