Atlanta, GA (March 23, 2020) – On Monday, March 23, 2020, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Atlanta Police Department (APD) to investigate an officer involved shooting.
Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 9:19 a.m., a 911 call was placed regarding a subject stabbing herself with a knife in the area of 2848 Eleanor Terrace NW, Atlanta, Georgia. When officers responded, they encountered the subject, later identified as Tammy Patrice Black, 52 years old of Atlanta, armed with a knife. Black did not comply with the officers’ verbal commands to drop the knife and officers attempted to deploy a taser to gain compliance. Despite these efforts, Black did not comply. Black retreated into a neighboring residence and exited carrying another knife. Black quickly advanced towards officers and at that time, an officer discharged their firearm, striking Black. Black was transported to a local area hospital and is being treated for her injuries. The officers were not injured.
The GBI will continue its independent investigation and upon completion, it will be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
