Cuthbert, GA (March 21, 2020) – On Friday, March 20, 2020, at approximately 1:50 p.m., the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Cuthbert Department to investigate an officer involved shooting.

Preliminary information indicates officers from Cuthbert PD were conducting an entering auto investigation. During the course of the investigation, contact was made with Kamaal Koby Edwards, 18, of Cuthbert. A foot chase ensued that resulted in gunfire between the officers and Edwards. Edwards was pronounced deceased at the scene. The GBI Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy on Edwards.

One officer sustained a minor injury during the incident.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation of the officer involved shooting. Upon completion of the investigation, it will be turned over the Pataula Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
