GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in College Park
College Park, GA (March 16, 2020) – On Sunday, March 15, 2020, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the College Park Police Department (CPPD) to investigate an officer involved shooting.
Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 3:31 a.m., CPPD officers were dispatched to an apartment complex located at 2685 Charlestown Dr. in College Park on a suspicious activity call. The caller reported that several males were congregated around a couple of vehicles in a parking lot and one of them had a firearm. A CPPD officer responded and upon arrival, the males entered the two vehicles and were trying to leave the scene. One of the vehicles reportedly drove toward the officer and the officer fired his weapon during the encounter.
The two vehicles fled the parking lot. Additional CPPD officers were located at the apartment complex entrance and were positioned to stop the fleeing vehicles. A second CPPD officer fired his weapon when again, one of the vehicles drove at the officers. The two vehicles then fled in separate directions. One of the vehicles was later located in another area of the apartment complex. No one was inside the car. A firearm was recovered inside the vehicle.
Officers were unsuccessful in locating the second vehicle.
No officers were injured during the incident.
