Clayton County, GA (December 24, 2019) – On Tuesday, December 24, 2019, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) to investigate an officer involved shooting.

Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 2:07 p.m., a CCSO deputy attempted to stop a vehicle in the 6300 block of Jonesboro Road in Morrow.  The stop was attempted after the deputy was alerted the vehicle, a pickup truck, was associated with a wanted person.  The truck initially stopped, then sped away.  The deputy pursued until the truck wrecked near 5320 Philips Road in Lake City.  After the wreck, the deputy fired his service weapon, striking the subject identified as Donald Clark Wright III, 24, of Jackson.  Wright ran from the scene and was apprehended on Helen Street minutes later by responding officers. 

Wright was transported to Atlanta Medical Center where he is in stable condition.  Wright has outstanding arrest warrants from multiple counties in Georgia.

No officers were injured during the incident.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation.  Once complete, it will be turned over to the Clayton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
