Statesboro, Georgia (October 21, 2019) – On Monday, October 21, 2019, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) received a request for assistance from the Georgia Southern Police Department regarding the death of a Georgia Southern University (GSU) student and football player that occurred on Georgia Southern Property in Statesboro, Georgia.   

Preliminary information indicates that on October 21, 2019, at approximately 6:00 PM, Jordan Wiggins, age 18, was found unresponsive in his dormitory room located on Chandler Road, Statesboro, Georgia. He was transported to East Georgia Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. At this point in the investigation, no foul play is suspected. An autopsy was performed on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 to determine the cause and manner of death. The results of the autopsy are pending.

The GBI is conducting the investigation in collaboration with the Georgia Southern Police Department.  Anyone with information is urged to contact the GBI Statesboro office at 912-871-1121.
