GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in DeKalb County
Tucker, GA (September 12, 2019) – On Wednesday, September 11, 2019, the DeKalb County Police Department (DKPD) requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to conduct an officer involved shooting investigation.
Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 5:50 pm, DKPD officers were located at the Motel 6, 2810 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker, GA, in reference to an investigation. While at the Motel 6, officers encountered a vehicle driven by a subject later identified as James Forbes, 32, of Stone Mountain. As officers approached this vehicle, Forbes’ vehicle rammed a DKPD patrol vehicle and hit several other vehicles in the parking lot. During this incident, a DKPD officer discharged his firearm, striking Forbes in the leg. Forbes fled the scene in the vehicle, striking multiple vehicles on the road. Forbes’ vehicle came to a rest at the Chevron, 4246 Lavista Road, Tucker, GA, where he was taken into custody. Forbes is currently being treated for his injuries at a local hospital.
No officers were injured during the incident.
The GBI will continue its independent investigation. Once complete, it will be turned over to the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office for review.
