Franklin, GA (May 13, 2019) – On Thursday, May 9, 2019, agents of the GBI West Metro Regional Drug Enforcement Office arrested James Elvin Cook, 38, of Franklin, Heard County, GA at a residence located in West Point, Troup County, GA. Agents had previously executed a search warrant on Cook’s Heard County residence on April 19, 2019, at which time Cook fled from the scene. Cook led officers in a pursuit into nearby Alabama. Officers discontinued the pursuit and Cook became a fugitive from justice.

Agents seized approximately one kilogram of methamphetamine, a small amount fentanyl, and one handgun. Cook will be charged with trafficking methamphetamine, possession of firearm by convicted felon, possession of fentanyl, and parole violation.

Also arrested at the Troup County residence for trafficking methamphetamine were Billy Lumuel “BJ” Tyson, 38, of LaGrange, GA, and Misty Leigh Perry, 39, of West Point, GA. 

The Troup County Sheriff’s Office and the Heard County Sheriff’s Office participated in this investigation.
