Barrow County, GA (February 6, 2019) – On Tuesday, February 5, 2019, the GBI was requested by the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office to investigate an officer involved shooting.

Preliminary information indicates that the incident took place after one of the deputies attempted to stop a black Ford F-150 pick-up truck for a traffic violation in Auburn, Georgia around 12:10 PM. The driver of the vehicle, Casey Taylor, 31, actively fled from the deputy and a vehicle pursuit began. Several other Barrow County deputies joined the pursuit that went into Gwinnett County and back into Barrow County. There were two female passengers in the vehicle. At one point, a PIT maneuver was performed.  During the incident, Taylor rammed one of the deputy’s vehicles. He then fired at least 10 times at the deputies while they were still in their vehicles.  Deputies returned fire, striking Taylor and one of the female passengers.  Taylor was treated at a local hospital and released into the custody of the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office.  One of the females was injured and remains in the hospital for treatment.

Arrest warrants are expected to be issued by the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office.

No officers were injured during this incident.

The GBI investigation remains active and ongoing.  Once complete, it will be provided to the Barrow County District Attorney’s Office for review.
