Decatur, GA (January 23, 2019) – On Tuesday, January 22, 2019, the GBI was requested by the DeKalb County Police Department (DKPD) to investigate an officer involved shooting in Decatur, GA. 

Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 8:35 p.m., a DeKalb Police Officer was in the area of 2450 Candler Road, Decatur, Georgia conducting routine patrol. The officer conducted an investigative stop involving an individual that was at this location. The officer made contact and the male subject attempted to elude the officer on foot. During the chase, the subject fired a weapon.  The officer discharged his weapon, striking the subject.  The subject was transported to Atlanta Medical Center and remains in serious condition.  A weapon was located at the scene.

No officers were injured during this incident.

The GBI will conduct its independent investigation. Once complete, it will be turned over to the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office for review.
