Atlanta, GA (December 23, 2018) – On Saturday, December 22, 2018, the GBI was requested by the Atlanta Police Department (APD) to investigate an officer involved shooting.  

Preliminary information indicates that on Saturday, December 22, 2018, at approximately 5:00 p.m., APD officers made contact with two male subjects inside a business located at 1166 Ralph David Abernathy Blvd SW in Atlanta.  The two subjects were being interviewed regarding their use of suspected marijuana outside the business. During the interview, one of the subjects, identified as Saleem Wilson, Jr., age 25, ran from the building.  An APD officer gave chase and during the arrest, a handgun, belonging to one of the subjects, discharged and struck Wilson in the neck area.  Wilson was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and is currently listed in stable condition.  The second subject was also arrested by APD.

One officer sustained minor injuries during the incident.

The GBI will conduct its independent investigation. Once complete, it will be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
