GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in DeKalb County
Decatur, GA (December 14, 2018) – On Thursday, December 13, 2018, the DeKalb County Police Department (DKPD) requested GBI to conduct an officer involved shooting investigation that occurred in Decatur, DeKalb County, GA. Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 5:03 pm, a DKPD officer conducted a vehicle stop at 2090 Candler Road. During the stop, the driver, identified as Brandon Taylor of Decatur, GA, 33, ran from the scene. The DKPD officer chased the subject to the parking lot of a business located at 2091 Candler Road, where Taylor shot the officer multiple times. Taylor then fled the shooting scene.
Responding DKPD K9 and SWAT officers tracked Taylor and found him hiding in a pile of tires behind a business at 2125 Candler Road. When confronted, Taylor fired his weapon, striking the K9. Three DKPD SWAT officers fired at Taylor. Taylor was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The officer was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. He has been identified as Officer Edgar Flores, 24, and had been with the department for 1½ years.
The K9 Officer has been identified as Indi. He is in stable condition. Indi is 7 years old and has 5 years of service.
The GBI will conduct its independent investigation. Once complete, it will be turned over to the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office for review.
