GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Bibb County
Macon, GA (December 12, 2018) – On Tuesday, December 11, 2018, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office requested the GBI to conduct an officer involved shooting investigation involving the U.S. Marshals Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force. At approximately 10:15 AM, four officers assigned to the Task Force executed an arrest warrant for Robert Baxton Williams, 34, for Probation Violation. Williams was at his residence located on Fulton Mill Road in Bibb County. As the officers pulled into Williams’ driveway, they noticed Williams and a female, later identified as Kaley Dee Gay, 25, sitting inside a screened-in carport. Both Williams and Gay fled into the residence. The four officers entered the residence and quickly arrested Williams without further incident.
The officers noticed Gay had run further into the residence and was standing near a back bedroom. Gay was instructed to show her hands and to walk towards them. One of the officers recognized Gay and was familiar that she had active warrants for her arrest. As Gay was being searched, she concealed her hand into her pocket and pulled out a small semi-automatic pistol. She fired one round and attempted to chamber another round. The officer that was searching Gay returned fire, striking Gay twice. EMS was immediately requested. Gay was transported to the Navicent Health Center in Macon where she was pronounced deceased. No officers were injured in this incident.
The GBI will conduct its independent investigation. Once complete, it will be turned over to the Bibb County District Attorney’s Office for review.
