Statesboro, Georgia (September 19, 2018) – On Tuesday, September 18, 2018, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) received a request for assistance from the Georgia Southern Police Department regarding the death of a Georgia Southern University (GSU) student that occurred on Georgia Southern Property in Statesboro, Georgia.   

Preliminary information indicates that Malik Jones, age 20, was found dead on September 18, 2018, at approximately 8:00 PM in his apartment located in Freedom’s Landing Apartment Complex.  A GBI medical examiner performed an autopsy on September 19, 2018 to determine the cause and manner of death. The results of the autopsy are pending.  

The GBI is conducting the investigation in collaboration with the Georgia Southern Police Department.  Anyone with information is urged to contact the GBI Statesboro office at 912-871-1121.
