Greenville, GA (August 15, 2018) – On Wednesday, August 15, 2018, the GBI was requested by the Greenville Police Department to conduct a child death investigation of Ayla Reeves, approximately 10 months old.

Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 11:15 AM, Greenville Police conducted a traffic stop on Cameron Ramon Reese, age 22, for speeding.  Reese fled, but in the vehicle he was driving, they located Ayla Reeves deceased in the car.  Information obtained from the initial investigation shows that Reese was keeping the baby when he contacted the baby’s mother, Nikia Reeves, age 19, and stated that baby Reeves was not breathing.  When Nikia Reeves arrives at 738 North Depot Street, Greenville Commons she grew suspicious of Cameron Reese’s behavior.  All three individuals exited the home and entered into a car where Nikia Reeves questions Cameron Reece about a mark under the child’s eye.  During the encounter, Cameron Reece pulls out a steak knife and Nikia Reeves jumps out of the vehicle, sustaining severe road rash.  Meriwether Sheriff’s Office receives a stolen baby call.  Reese was tracked by a Department of Corrections canine to 738 North Depot Street where he was eventually detained.

Cameron Ramon Reece has been charged with aggravated assault and concealing the death of another.

A cause and manner of death is pending a GBI autopsy.  This investigation remains active and ongoing.
