Atlanta, GA (June 29, 2018) On Friday, June 29, 2018, the GBI was requested by the Atlanta Police Department (APD) to investigate an officer involved shooting.

Preliminary information indicates that an APD officer stopped to check on a person who was reportedly yelling and screaming in the vicinity of 159 Forsyth Street SW.  The subject, identified as Timothy Bernard Ford, 47, became combative during the encounter. The officer deployed his Taser and pepper spray during the confrontation.  During the incident, the officer fired his weapon, striking Ford in the abdomen.  Other officers responded to the scene and deployed Tasers while attempting to take Ford into custody.  Once arrested, Ford was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital.

One officer sustained minor injuries during the incident.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation. Once complete, it will be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
