Atlanta, GA (June 20, 2018) - On Tuesday, June 19, 2018, the GBI was requested by the Atlanta Police Department (APD) to investigate an officer involved shooting.  

Preliminary information indicates that the East Point Police Department was investigating a carjacking which occurred earlier in the day.  At approximately 4:45 p.m., an APD officer located the stolen vehicle in an apartment complex near 2685 Old Hapeville Road, SW.  The vehicle was being driven in the parking lot and was occupied by two males.  During the attempted stop, the passenger exited the vehicle and fired shots.  The driver, identified as Nicholas White, 23, sped towards the officer and the officer fired his weapon, striking White. White was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where he is in critical condition.  The passenger has not been identified or located.

No officers were injured during this incident.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation.  Once complete, it will be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney's Office for review.
