Atlanta, GA (May 4, 2018) – On Friday May 4, 2018, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was requested by the Atlanta Police Department (APD) to investigate an officer involved shooting.   

Preliminary information from local authorities indicate that at approximately 1:30 p.m., an officer with APD located a stolen vehicle.  The officer followed the vehicle which eventually stopped in the apartment complex at 532 Cleveland Avenue, Atlanta, Georgia.  The vehicle was occupied by two juvenile subjects.  Both subjects exited the vehicle and fled the area.  The officer followed the subjects and at some point, one of the individuals brandished a firearm. The officer discharged his service weapon.  Initial information indicates that the subject discharged his weapon during this encounter.  The subject continued to flee and was eventually apprehended a short distance later.  At that time, it was discovered that the subject had sustained a gunshot wound. The subject was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

A firearm was located at the scene.

No officers were injured during this incident.  APD will handle the warrants for the subject.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation. Once completed, the case will be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
