Tallapoosa, GA – On Monday, March 05, 2018, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) to investigate an officer involved shooting

Preliminary information from law enforcement agencies indicates that at approximately 11:57 a.m., GSP troopers, located in Haralson County, Georgia, became involved in a vehicle pursuit involving a GMC Yukon.  The vehicle was stolen from Cleburne County, Alabama and was driven by Donald Brandon Hamner, age 25.

During the pursuit, Hamner wrecked at 1025 Broad Street in Tallapoosa, Georgia.  Hamner fled to a residence where he stole a truck.  Hamner then drove the stolen truck towards troopers who reported hearing shots fired at them. A trooper returned fire at Hamner’s fleeing vehicle.

The pursuit continued until it was stopped on Old White Oak Cemetery Road in Paulding County.  Hamner was taken into custody and found to have a gunshot wound to his arm and a wound from a canine bite.  He was transported WellStar Kennestone Regional Medical Center for treatment and released.  Hamner is being held at Haralson County Jail pending charges for aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

No officers were injured during the incident.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation.  Once completed, the case will be turned over to the Tallapoosa Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
