Atlanta, GA – On Saturday, February 24, 2018 the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was requested by the Atlanta Police Department (APD) to investigate an officer involved shooting.

Preliminary information revealed that APD received a 911 call regarding a suspicious male. At approximately 9:00 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 2000 block of Hapeville Road SW and found a male subject sitting on the front porch with a handgun.  As officers approached, the subject fled and officers pursued him.  During the pursuit, an APD officer fired his service weapon and struck the subject.  The GBI is working to determine what occurred at the time of the shooting.

The subject was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where he is in critical condition. No officers were injured during the incident. A handgun was recovered at the scene.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation.  Once completed, the case will be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
