Atlanta, GA – On Thursday, February 8, 2018, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was requested by the Atlanta Police Department (APD) to investigate an officer involved shooting.

Preliminary information from local authorities indicates that at approximately 3:20 p.m., an APD officer observed a stolen vehicle at 1885 Jonesboro Road. The officer attempted a traffic stop and the vehicle fled the scene. The officer discontinued the pursuit for safety reasons.

A short distance later on Forrest Park Road, officers again attempted to stop the vehicle.  The stolen vehicle struck one of the patrol units then continued to travel until it wrecked at the intersection of South River Industrial Boulevard and Forrest Park Road. After wrecking, the driver rammed the stolen vehicle into another patrol car multiple times. Officers discharged their firearms striking the driver. The driver was identified as Donnie Eugene Daniels, age 38. Daniels was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment and is in stable condition. No officers were injured during this incident.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation.  Once completed, the case will be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
