Update: The subject has been identified as Joshua Mapson, age 22.  Carroll County Sheriff's Office charged him with reckless conduct and loitering.

Carroll County, GA – On Monday, October 9, 2017, at approximately 3:30 AM, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was requested by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office to investigate an officer involved shooting in Carroll County, GA. 

Preliminary information provided by Carroll County authorities indicate that at approximately 3:20 AM during routine patrol, a Carroll County deputy approached a suspicious individual in a vehicle at a Dollar General parking lot located at 4755 E Highway 166, Carrollton, GA 30116.  During the encounter, the deputy fired his service weapon multiple times at a male subject, striking him.  The male subject was transported to an area hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released.  That individual was taken into custody by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.     

No officers were injured during this incident.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation to determine what occurred.  When the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the Carroll County District Attorney’s Office for review.
