Newnan, GA – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has arrested a nursing assistant for causing injuries related to a 98-year-old patient’s death.  On Tuesday, May 23, 2017, Newnan Health and Rehabilitation reported to the Newnan Police Department that Edna Warren, 98, had sustained a broken leg following physical contact with Certified Nursing Assistant Hakim Ogunkunle, age 43.  Warren was taken to Piedmont Newnan Hospital where she underwent emergency surgery but died during the procedure. 

The Newnan Police Department requested GBI’s assistance with the case following their preliminary investigation.  The GBI’s investigation has revealed that Ogunkunle intentionally caused Warren’s injury. 

On Thursday, May 25, 2017, Ogunkunle was arrested and charged with aggravated battery and exploitation and intimidation of an elderly person.  Ogunkunle is being held in the Coweta County Jail.
