GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Clayton County, GA
Clayton County, Georgia – On Tuesday, January 3, 2017, the Atlanta Police Department (APD) requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) to investigate an officer involved shooting in Clayton County, Georgia.
Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 7:15 PM, officers with APD located a stolen vehicle from a Fulton County Police Department theft case occupied by two individuals. APD officers followed the vehicle which eventually wrecked on the off ramp of I-285 and Clark Howell. One male subject exited the vehicle and was shot by an APD officer. The male subject continued to flee the scene until he was apprehended a short distance later. The male subject was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released.
Charges are pending further investigation by the Fulton County Police Department.
The GBI will continue its independent investigation to determine what occurred during the incident. When the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the Clayton County District Attorney's Office for review.
