Lincolnton, GA – On Friday, December 30, 2016, at approximately 12:20 AM, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office 911 Center received a call in reference to a shooting in the 1000 block of Fleming Lake Court in Lincolnton, Georgia.  When law enforcement and EMS arrived on scene, they discovered a male subject identified as, Derrick Brandon Smith, 30 years old, had been shot.  Smith was transported to Doctors Hospital in Augusta, Georgia where he died of his injuries.  The Georgia Bureau of Investigation Region 7 Field Office was contacted to assist with the investigation. 

Preliminary investigation revealed that two groups of individuals were attending a party at the Fleming Lake Court address, when an altercation took place.  During the altercation, Samuel Bradford Gray, 21 years old, shot Smith.  Gray is currently being held at the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office jail and is being charged with one count of Murder. An autopsy will be performed on Smith at the GBI Crime Lab in Decatur, GA.
