GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Douglasville, GA
Douglasville, Georgia – On Wednesday, November 23, 2016, the Douglasville Police Department requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) to investigate an officer involved shooting in Douglasville, Georgia.
Preliminary information provided by Douglas County authorities indicates that at approximately 1:17 PM, officers responded to multiple 911 calls of a naked male in the street. A responding officer arrived at the 1100 block of Preston Landing Circle, Lithia Springs, GA and made contact with the individual. Moments later, the individual lunged at the officer in the direction of his Taser. The officer fired one shot at the individual, striking him in the arm. Subsequently, the officer reported shots fired over the police radio and EMS was called to the scene of the incident. A deputy with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene and gave the individual verbal commands. The individual was noncompliant to the verbal commands and the deputy tasered him. EMS transported the individual to Grady Memorial Hospital where he is in stable condition.
No officers were injured during this incident.
The GBI will continue its independent investigation to determine what occurred during the incident. When the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the Douglas County District Attorney's Office for review.
