GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Cobb County, GA
Cobb County, Georgia – On Sunday, November 6, 2016, the Cobb County Police Department requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) to investigate an officer involved shooting in Cobb County, Georgia.
Preliminary information provided by Cobb County authorities indicates that at approximately 11:00 AM, officers responded to a 911 call of a suspicious vehicle in the area of Nelly Brook Drive, Mableton, GA. A responding Cobb County Police Officer made contact with the occupants of the vehicle. It was discovered that the vehicle was stolen. During the incident, the occupants exited the vehicle and attempted to flee the area. The officer chased after one of the individuals and after a short distance later, the officer discharged his weapon. The individual was struck and received non-life threatening injuries. He was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where he is being treated for his injuries and listed in stable condition.
No officers were injured during this incident.
The GBI will continue its independent investigation to determine what occurred during the incident. When the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the Cobb County District Attorney's Office for review.
