Arrests of Drug Suspects in Coweta and Meriwether Counties
On Tuesday, October 25th, 2016, members of the GBI West Metro Regional Drug Enforcement Office, along with the Newnan Police Department, the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration concluded a three (3) month joint narcotics investigation resulting in the arrest of Terry Hicks, age 42, and Leroy Lewis, age 40.
During the course of the investigation, agents began purchasing substantial amounts of crystal methamphetamine directly from Terry Hicks in Woodbury, Meriwether County, Georgia. Throughout the investigation, surveillance was conducted during the purchases and led agents to Hicks residence at 33 Melson Drive Newnan, Georgia. Agents furthered the investigation and began making purchases of methamphetamine from Leroy Lewis, a known associate of Terry Hicks. Throughout the investigation, over twenty (20) ounces of suspected methamphetamine was purchased utilizing undercover techniques.
As a result of this investigation, a search warrant was conducted at 33 Melson Drive in Newnan, Georgia by the GBI West Metro Regional Drug Enforcement Office and the Newnan Police Department. A firearm was recovered at the residence and less than one ounce of suspected marijuana.
Hicks is charged with three (3) counts of trafficking methamphetamine. Lewis is charged with one (1) count of trafficking methamphetamine. Other charges and arrests are expected as a result of this investigation. Both suspects are currently incarcerated and no bond has been set at the time of this press release.
The GBI West Metro Regional Drug Enforcement Office is located in Carrollton, Georgia and services 26 counties. The office is comprised of members from the GBI, Carrollton PD., Villa Rica P.D., Bowden P.D., Lagrange P.D., Atlanta P.D., Peachtree City P.D., Fulton County P.D., Carroll County S.O., and Heard County S.O.
