GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Bleckley County, GA
Bleckley County, GA – On Monday, June 27, 2016, at approximately 8:50 am, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was requested by the Bleckley County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) to investigate an officer involved shooting that resulted in the death of Blake Peacock, age 32, of Cochran, GA.
Preliminary information indicates that on the same date at 8:19 am, BCSO received a 911 call from Sheila Peacock (Blake Peacock’s mother) advising that Peacock had damaged her house and vehicle at their residence in Cochran, GA. Additionally, she indicated in the call that Peacock had also choked her. Two (2) deputies responded to 307 Hwy. 257 West, Cochran, GA. As the deputies were responding, Sheila Peacock advised the 911 operator that her son was stating that deputies would have a hard time removing him from the property and that they would have to kill him. Sheila also advised 911 that Blake had obtained a rifle from the residence and was pointing it at her and his grandmother. 911 operators relayed the aforementioned information to the deputies during their response. The deputies arrived at the scene and encountered Blake Peacock in the yard, armed with a rifle. Deputies ordered him to drop the rifle and he did not comply. One of the deputies then fired one shot at Blake Peacock, striking him. EMS responded to the scene and determined that Peacock was deceased; thus, there was no transport to a local hospital. The only persons present at the residence at the time of the shooting were Peacock’s mother, Sheila Peacock, his grandmother, Blake Peacock, and the 2 responding deputies.
No officers were injured during this incident.
The investigation is in its early stages and is ongoing. The GBI will conduct an independent investigation to determine what occurred during the incident. When the investigation is completed, it will be turned over to the District Attorney for review.
