Dawson, GA – On Monday, June 6, 2016, Marquis Garland, age 31 of 1910 Elkhorn Lane, Albany, GA, was indicted in a Terrell County Grand Jury on multiple counts of Unlawful Acts Regarding Criminal History Record Information.

The indictments against Garland are the result of a GBI investigation requested by Dawson Police Chief Charlie Whitehead.  The GBI was asked to look into an allegation of Garland unlawfully obtaining criminal and driver’s history information using the Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) which is maintained by the GBI.  At that time Garland was employed with the Dawson Police Department as a corporal.

On the past Wednesday, June 8, 2016, Garland pled guilty to three counts of Unlawful Acts Regarding Criminal History Record Information.  He was sentenced to 36 months on probation, issued a $500.00 fine, and he must surrender his P.O.S.T. certification.

Garland is no longer employed with the Dawson Police Department.
