Updated: GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Chatham County
Chatham County, GA – On Wednesday, May 25, 2016, the GBI’s Statesboro Regional Office was requested by the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office to investigate an officer involved shooting that resulted in the arrest of Joshua Myers 22 year-old male.
On Wednesday, May 25, The United States Marshal’s Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force’s Agents and Deputy Marshals were attempting to execute an arrest warrant on Joshua Myers for an outstanding aggravated assault warrant. During the operation, a stolen black Chevrolet Avalanche occupied by Joshua Myers struck multiple task force vehicles as it was fleeing the area of Wilder Drive. A task force agent fired a shot at Myers striking the vehicle. The Avalanche was subsequently found abandoned on the fourteen hundred block of Stuyvesant Street. Joshua Myers was arrested a few blocks away by task force agents.
The investigation is ongoing and in its preliminary stages. No one was shot during the incident and one officer suffered minor injuries resulting from the Avalanche striking a task force vehicle.

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation to determine what occurred during the incident. When the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the District Attorney for review.
