DeKalb County, GA –  On Tuesday, April 12, 2016, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was requested by the Conyers Police Department to investigate an officer involved shooting involving an Officer with the Conyers Police Department in Lithonia, DeKalb County, GA.

On the above date at approximately 10:45 a.m., an Officer with Conyers PD located a vehicle on I-20 West suspected to be driven by Diondre David Evans, age 22.  Evans was being sought by police for an alleged domestic violence incident which occurred earlier this same date in Conyers, Rockdale County, GA.  That incident resulted in three (3) misdemeanor warrants for Evans for Battery, Criminal Trespass, and Obstructing Emergency 911 Call.  The Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office put out a BOLO over the radio for the vehicle and Evans.  The BOLO also stated that Evans possibly had a weapon.

The Officer initiated a traffic stop of the vehicle on the Turner Hill exit ramp of I-20 West in DeKalb County.  A Deputy with the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office also participated in the traffic stop.  Once the vehicle was stopped, the Officer and Deputy confirmed that the driver of the vehicle was Evans and attempted to get Evans out of the vehicle.  Evans attempted to elude arrest and was tasered by the Deputy.  Evans continued to move his vehicle and was subsequently shot multiple times by the Officer.

Evans was transported to Grady Hospital where he was treated for gunshot wounds to his arm and neck.  He is listed in stable condition.

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation to determine what occurred during the incident.  When the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office for any action they deem appropriate.
