GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Macon, GA
Macon, GA – On Thursday, March 10, 2016, at approximately 11:00 PM, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation responded to the scene of an officer involved shooting at the request of the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
On Thursday, March 10, 2016, at approximately 10:11 PM, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call in reference to possible shots fired in the area of 140 Prentice Place, Macon, GA. A deputy was dispatched to the area and made contact with a black male standing near a small pickup truck. The deputy approached the vehicle and asked to see the individual’s hands. The deputy observed that the individual had a gun in his hand. The deputy observed the individual raise the gun towards the deputy and then the deputy fired one shot, striking the individual in the right arm.
EMS was called and transported the individual to the Navicent Health Medical Center in Macon, GA where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. He was later released from the hospital to the custody of the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office where he was charged with Aggravated Assault. The deputy was not injured during the incident.
The GBI will conduct an independent investigation to determine what occurred during the incident. When the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the Bibb County District Attorney's Office for any action they deem appropriate.
