GBI Investigating Two Bodies Burned inside a Vehicle in Crawford County
Lizella, GA – On Sunday, September 20, 2015, the GBI Perry Regional Office was requested by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office to investigate the discovery of two bodies found inside a burning car in a wooded area behind a residence located at 4901 Marshall Mill Road in Lizella, GA. At approximately 9:30 a.m., a Crawford County Sheriff’s deputy discovered the vehicle on fire in a wooded area behind the residence while responding to an unrelated incident. The Crawford County Fire Department was dispatched to extinguish the vehicle fire and discovered two burned bodies located in the back seat. After discovering the two bodies, the GBI was called to the scene to investigate and complete a crime scene examination. The burned vehicle is described as a 2015 Kia Soul and had been rented from the Enterprise Rent-a-Car located in Warner Robins, GA.
An autopsy is expected to be performed later today by the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Macon to determine the cause of death. At this time the two bodies have not been identified and the investigation is ongoing.
