LaGrange, GA – The Troup County Sheriff’s Office has requested the GBI investigate a shooting involving one of their deputies early this morning.  The initial information regarding the incident is that at 12:05 AM the Troup County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a citizen who reported their neighbor was shooting a gun.  Deputy Stephen D’Angelo responded to 3218 Hamilton Road in LaGrange where he located Terry Caldwell, 60, sitting in his carport.  Caldwell had an AK47 style pistol which he fired twice at the deputy.  Deputy D’Angelo fired four times at Caldwell striking him in the elbow and thigh.  Caldwell was transported to Grady Hospital where he is being treated for what appear to be non-life threatening injuries.  Deputy D’Angelo was not injured during the incident.

The GBI will conduct a thorough investigation to determine what occurred during the incident. When the investigation is complete it will be turned over to the district attorney for any action he deems appropriate.
