911 Call Released in Shooting Involving Peachtree City Police Chief
Decatur, GA. – The GBI is releasing the recording of the 911 call from Chief William McCollom to the Fayette County 911 center. On January 1, at approximately 4:17 AM, Chief McCollom, 57, called the 911 center to report he had shot his wife, Margaret McCollom, 58, in their home at 103 Autumn Leaf in Peachtree City. First responders were dispatched to the McCollom home and Ms. McCollom was airlifted to the Atlanta Medical Center to be treated for her injury.
The Peachtree City Police Department requested the GBI conduct an investigation of the shooting. The investigation has revealed the shooting occurred in the bedroom of the home. Chief McCollom fired his service weapon once, striking Ms. McCollom. Chief McCollom has been cooperating with GBI agents working the investigation. Ms. McCollom will be interviewed when her medical condition improves.
When the GBI completes the investigation, it will be turned over to Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard.
