Cairo, GA - At approximately 6:20 p.m. on Friday 12/5/2014, officers with the Cairo Police Department arrested Franklin Lee, 58, of 331 Loblolly Lane, Cairo, GA, for Disorderly Conduct at Hardee’s restaurant in Cairo.  According to Cairo P. D., Lee appeared to be intoxicated.  During the arrest Lee was sprayed with Pepper Spray.  He was taken to the Grady County Detention Center where he was decontaminated from the Pepper Spray and placed in a holding cell. A Grady County Jailer later found Lee unresponsive in the cell, at approximately 9:40 p.m. Lee was transported to Grady General Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:19 p.m.

The Cairo Police Department requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to investigate the death.

Lee’s body was transported to the GBI Crime Lab in Macon where an autopsy will be performed. This investigation continues.
