Decatur, GA – An analysis of drug submissions to the GBI Crime Lab found heroin submissions have increased annually since 2011.  During the three year period from 2011 to present heroin submissions have increased by more than 300%.  (GBI Crime Lab’s statistics reflect data from a fiscal year cycle of July to June.)  While the increase of submissions from 2011 to 2012 was only 28%, the increase from 2012 to 2013 was much more significant with an increase of more than 100%.  To date in 2014 there has been a 20 % increase with two months left in the fiscal year.  In comparing heroin submissions to all other drugs submitted to the crime lab in 2013 and 2014 to date, the analysis found there was a 22% decrease in submission of all other drugs during that period compared to the 20% increase in heroin submissions.
