Arrest made in Murder of William Land
Newton, GA – A joint investigation conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Sylvester Field Office, the Newton Police Department, and the Baker County Sheriff’s Office has resulted in 44 year old Ulysses Blackshear, Jr., being charged with the murder of William Land. Today, a GBI agent obtained criminal arrest warrants on Blackshear charging him with one count of felony murder and one count of robbery. Warrants were served on Blackshear at the Daugherty County Jail where he was being held on a probation violation. Blackshear lives at 3155 Bay Fish Lane, Newton, Georgia.
Newton Police Chief Jesse Rivers had requested assistance from the GBI on Tuesday, September 10, 2013, after a wellness check was conducted on 87 year old William Land. During this check Mr. Land was found deceased inside his residence at 241 Clearlake Road in Newton.
