Commerce Police Officer Arrested
Commerce, GA. - On February 22, 2011, agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Athens Office, arrested Commerce Police Officer Matthew Scott Rogers, age 44, charging him with one felony count of Criminal Liability and Penalties of Crimes of Computers, O.C.G.A. 16-9-93. The arrest was in connection with Officer Rogers running a tag through the Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) for personal reasons which violate the laws governing the use of GCIC.
Rogers was arrested and processed at the Jackson County Jail where he was later released on a $2,000.00 bond.
On Thursday, February 17, 2011, Commerce Police Chief John Gaissert requested GBI Athens Regional Office to investigate the complaint of Officer Rogers running a vehicle license plate for personal reasons.
Officer Rogers is presently on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of an internal administrative review by the Commerce Police Department. Investigation continues.
