ELLIJAY, GA – As result of information received recently by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Regional Office in Cleveland, Georgia about the possibility of a murder having taken place in Gilmer County in 2007,  agents in a matter of two weeks have recovered the victim’s remains and have charged a Rabun County man with murder.

On September 1,  the GBI was told that a murder had occurred in Gilmer County Georgia in late 2007 and that the victim was John Patrick Hade, a resident of Gilmer County.  GBI Agents were able to confirm that Hade had not been seen since June 2007, but that no missing person’s report was ever filed.

With the assistance of the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office,  the GBI launched an investigation into Hade’s disappearance that uncovered information indicating Hade’s remains were located on Fort Mountain at the Gilmer/Murray County line.  During a search of that area by GBI Agents, the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of GBI Calhoun, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and the Murray County Sheriff’s Office,  Hade’s skeletal remains were located.

On September 13, Shawn Glenn Ivey, 35,  was arrested in Rabun County on a Gilmer County murder warrant.  In addition to the agencies listed above, the Union County Sheriff’s Office, the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office and the Dalton Police Department assisted in the investigation.

GBI Director Vernon Keenan stated, “While there is more to do in this investigation, what has been accomplished so far in just a two week period by the agencies involved is yet another example of the effectiveness of a cooperative law enforcement effort.”
