COVINGTON, GA – As result of today’s Kimberly’s Call, a citizen’s tip has led to the arrest of Joseph C Crawford, charged in connection with the July 22 Little Caesar's shooting/robbery in Cornelia. He was arrested late today in Newton County after an alert gas station clerk recognized Crawford when he entered the business located at the corner of Oak Hill Road and Highway 81.   The clerk hit the silent alarm notifying Newton County Sheriff’s Office dispatch.

Investigators were already in the area having obtained information during the search that Crawford may be in Newton County.  GBI agents, Newton County Sheriff’s Deputies and members of the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force responded to the station. When Crawford spotted police, he ran out of the back door of the station where he was met by arresting officers covering the rear of the gas station.

Crawford was taken to the Newton County Jail where he was interviewed by GBI agents and Cornelia Police.  He will be transported to the Habersham County Jail later tonight where he faces aggravated assault and armed robbery charges.

Involved in today’s search for Crawford were the GBI, Newton County Sheriff’s Office, Cornelia Police Department, Loganville Police Department, Walton County Sheriff’s Office, Habersham County Sheriff’s Office, the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force and Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office.
