Lakeland, Ga. - On Sunday, May 30, 2010, at approximately 5:30 p.m., the Lakeland Police Department requested the GBI to assist with the investigation of a death which appeared to be the result of foul play.

The body of a woman was found inside a residence on E. Talley Avenue by Lakeland police officers at about 4:45 p.m. on Sunday. The officers were conducting a welfare check at the residence pursuant to the request of neighbors.

The exact cause of death is pending the results of an autopsy at the GBI Crime Lab. Investigators believe the deceased to be the tenant of the residence; however a positive identification will have to be made by the Crime Lab due to decomposition of the body.

Involved in the investigation are the GBI, the Lakeland Police Department, the Lanier County Sheriff’s Office, the Lakeland Fire Department, and the Lanier County Coroner.

The investigation is on-going; therefore no other details will be released at this time.
