AMERICUS, GA - On Sunday, August 02, 2009, at approximately 8:00 a.m., the body of a black male was discovered floating in the Flint River.  The victim, later identified as Tommie Lee Lewis (age 50), was last seen on Saturday morning, August 01, 2009, at approximately 2:00 a.m., according to witnesses.

Special Agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation were requested to respond and assist investigators with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office with the investigation.  The Crisp County Sheriff’s Office had been conducting a “missing persons” investigation prior to Lewis’ body being discovered.  Lewis’ vehicle had been found on the bridge, on Saturday, August 01, 2009, near the scene where his body was later recovered. 

Lewis’ body was sent to the GBI state crime lab in Decatur, Georgia, where an autopsy was performed.  The results of the autopsy are pending toxicology tests.  At this time, no evidence has been found to indicate foul play.
