DECATUR – Newton County Sheriff Joe Nichols and GBI Director Vernon Keenan announced that Rodney Young, 40, was arrested today in Bridgeton, New Jersey, for the murder of Gary Lamar Jones. 

The body of the 28-year-old Jones was discovered late Sunday night by his mother at their residence at65 Benedict Drive in CovingtonYoung, who resides at 71 Giles Street, in Bridgeton, was charged with one (1) count of Murder, one (1) count of Malice Murder, and one (1) count of Burglary.

An agent with the GBI and an investigator with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office had traveled to New Jersey yesterday to pursue the investigation into Young’s involvement in Jones’ murder.

Young’s return to Georgia to face these charges is pending an extradition hearing in New Jersey.
