GBI Investigates Officer Involved Use of Incident in Henry County
Henry County, GA (September 24, 2019) – On Friday, September 20, 2019, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Henry County Police Department (HCPD) to investigate an officer use of force incident.
Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 10:05 p.m., officers with the Hampton Police Department responded to a report of a nude male, later identified as Fernando Rodriguez, 24, of Forest Park, walking along Oak street. Hampton PD located Rodriguez and during contact with officers, he became combative. HCPD officers responded to the scene to assist. During the incident, Rodriguez was Tasered by officers of both departments. After Rodriguez was subdued, he exhibited signs of medical distress and emergency medical services were dispatched. Rodriguez was initially taken to Piedmont Henry Hospital before being transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where he later died.
The GBI will continue its independent investigation. Once complete, it will be turned over to the Henry County District Attorney’s Office for review.
