GBI’s Legal Services Director Cited by Appellate Court
(Decatur, GA) - Legal Services Director Mike Carlson’s evidence law treatise, Carlson on Evidence: Comparing Georgia and Federal Rules, co-authored with his father, UGA Law Prof. Ron Carlson, was referenced authoritatively in a decision of the Georgia Court of Appeals last week.
Director Vic Reynolds remarked, “We are proud of Mike and Prof. Ron’s dedication to educating Georgia’s bench, bar, and law enforcement on the rules evidence and for their work being cited in another insightful opinion from Chief Judge Dillard.”
The case is Hines v. State, A19A0072 (June 24, 2019), where the Court of Appeals unanimously affirmed Newton County convictions for possession of cocaine, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, and driving with a suspended license. The decision was authored by Chief Judge Dillard, who was joined by Judges Gobeil and Hodges of the Court of Appeals of Georgia. Carlson on Evidence has been referred to in over 40 separate Georgia appellate opinions.
