GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in East Point
East Point, GA (December 29, 2018) – On Friday, December 28, 2018, the GBI was requested by the East Point Police Department to investigate an officer involved shooting.
Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 11:00 AM, an unmarked East Point Police vehicle identified a stolen black Nissan in the parking lot of a Racetrac gas station on Camp Creek Parkway. The unmarked vehicle and marked East Point Patrol vehicles followed the Nissan to the Publix parking lot located at 3730 Carmia Drive, Atlanta, GA. Uniformed officers exited their patrol cars and approached the vehicle. The Nissan reversed into the unmarked unit. Uniformed officers fired at the Nissan. The Nissan fled from the parking lot toward I-285. Units from South Fulton joined the pursuit. Once on I-285, the driver, identified as Devin Nolley, exited the vehicle and was captured in the woodland line. The officers fired at Nolley on the interstate, striking him multiple times. He was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where he is being treated.
Early information indicates that one of the rounds hit a Wal-Greens Drug store in a separate lot. A female was cut by the falling glass.
No officers were injured during the incident.
The GBI will conduct its independent investigation. Once complete, it will be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
