Thomson, GA (September 23, 2018) – On Sunday, September 23, 2018, at approximately 6:20 a.m., the McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office requested the assistance of the GBI regarding a homicide investigation which occurred in Thomson, McDuffie County, GA. At approximately 5:40 a.m., deputies with the McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to 2281 Red Haven Drive in reference to a person being shot. Upon arrival, deputies learned Cynthia Cason, 62 years old, was deceased in her yard. Further investigation revealed that Cynthia’s husband, Jeffery Cason, 58 years old, was barricaded inside a garage near the residence. Columbia County Sheriff’s Office SWAT was called and negotiated with Jeffery Cason. GBI and the McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office began conducting interviews reference this investigation. Preliminary investigation revealed Jeffery Cason shot and killed his wife at their residence.

At approximately 9:55 a.m., Columbia County Sheriff’s Office SWAT entered the garage and located Jeffery Cason deceased with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The investigation is ongoing.
